Holiday Activities

ullapool harbourWith an area rich in spectacular scenery our holiday homes make ideal locations for those interested in climbing, walking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, diving and just relaxing.

Ullapool has first rate facilities including a medical centre, chemist, tourist information, leisure centre, post office, local butcher and baker, delicatessen, supermarkets and craft shops.

The ferry to Stornoway offers the chance of a unique day trip over the Minch to the Isle of Lewis or the harbour is an ideal place to sit and watch the local fishing boats.

Book a trip to see The Summer Isles and wildlife as you travel along the sea loch, for the thrill seeker there is a powerboat trip on a 12 seater RIB with Seascape or for those looking for a fast but more waterproof trip the Shearwater would be the boat for you.

Lochbroom Leisure Centre has a swimming pool, sauna, gym and sports hall, you can also enjoy a game of tennis or badminton, or practise on the indoor climbing wall before venturing out to the mountains.

Visitors are made very welcome at the lovely 9-hole golf course, with stunning views over Lochbroom. What better location for the keen golfer?

There is a thriving music and arts scene in Ullapool and surrounding areas. During the summer you will find music every week at one of the bars or hotels and The Macphail Centre often stages opera, ballet, orchestras or touring theatre productions.

Listen and watch the award winning Ullapool Pipe Band and highland dancers who perform weekly in the summer at the Calmac car park.

 Ullapool hosts Feis Rois 3 times a year where musical students may study, there is a Dance Festival in Spring, Book Festival in May, don't miss the Rotary summer fete 'Round the Pier Day' in July or  Loopallu Music Festival in September, followed by a Guitar Festival.

Then of course there is Hogmanay with a Ceilidh at the village hall and dancing into the wee hours.

You will always find something to do!

 

 

Eating Out

There are many different tastes to savour in the cafes, restaurants and pubs in Ullapool, traditional Scottish fare or top class fish and chips as well as Indian and Chinese carry outs. Further north try Kylesku Hotel or The Summer Isles Hotel at Achiltibuie for locally caught fish and fresh produce.

The Albannach Hotel, Lochinver offers a dining experience in Scotland's most northerly Michelin-Starred restaurant and in the same village The Caberfeidh Bar, Peet’s Restaurant and Lochinver Larder offer excellent food.

You will be spoilt for choice.

 

 

 

Beaches

achnahaird beachThe West Coast has many stunning beaches, from the large flat unique stones of Ardmair beach 3 miles north of Ullapool and further afield the sandy expanse and dunes of Achnahaird. Also beautiful sandy beaches at Clactol, Achmelvich, Oldshoremore, Mellon Udrigle, Balnakeil and Sango Bay.


Pack a picnic and take pleasure in a day at the beach.

 

 



 

Waterfalls

waterfall12 miles south of Ullapool is the breath-taking 1 mile long Corrieshalloch Gorge where the river plunges 150 feet over the Falls of Meashach, walk across the suspension bridge for superb photo opportunities.

There are walks close to Ardessie falls with beautiful views across Lochbroom and also outstanding waterfalls at Kylesku and close to the Bone Caves.

If you walk off the track and follow any burn you will generally find your own waterfall!

 

 

 

 

 

Mountains

ben mhorThe beautiful haunting area of Assynt, Coigach and north to Sutherland offer some amazing walks and strenuous climbing. There are isolated mountains, white beaches and blue lochs, the region includes many Munros, a mountain over 3,000 feet (914 m), some close by are the stunning peaks of An Teallach, Conival, Ben More Assynt and Ben Hope to name but a few.

Wherever you go you will find a mountain for your ability.

 

 

 

 

 

 

There are many terrific places to visit in the area so just go out, explore, immerse yourself in the highlands and enjoy.
